Dermshield Instructions

Congrats on your new ink!

To properly care for your new tattoo you will need the following:
-Recovery Dermshield Bandages
-Liquid Unscented Antibacterial Soap (Dial Gold)
-Lotion

Your artist will have wrapped your tattoo with a bandage of Recovery Dermshield. This wrap should be kept on for 24 hours. When the time comes remove this bandage. Wash your tattoo and apply a new wrap to begin the 5 day stage. You will keep this SAME bandage on for 5 additional days. On the last and final day you may remove the Dermshield (final stage). Please read through each stage carefully for in-depth instructions.

24 Hour Stage:
After the first bandage of Recovery Dermshield is applied by your artist you are instructed to keep it on for about 24 hours. During this stage your skin is still open and will generate plasma. Because of this you can expect a bit of fluid to form under the bandage. This is not a concern. However, if it becomes filled with excessive fluid and an ink sack forms you should remove and replace the bandage as soon as possible.

*To do so wash your hands and use warm water from the sink or shower to peel off the bandage. Use unscented antibacterial soap and only your fingers to scrub it clean. Pat and press it dry with a clean paper towel, DO NOT WIPE. Once dry you may apply the fresh Dermshield.

5 Day Stage:
After the first 24 hours are up remove the bandage from the last stage. Wash your hands as always and use warm water to remove the old Dermshield. Clean the tattoo with UNSCENTED ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP and scrub with your fingers. Rinse off and pat your tattoo dry with a clean PAPER TOWEL. Once dry you may apply fresh Dermshield to your tattoo. This same bandage can remain on for up to 5 days.

*You may shower with the bandage on but do not submerge it in water or hit it directly with hot water.

*If you develop a large ink sack any time during the 5 day stage remove the wrap completely and do not replace it. Thoroughly wash your tattoo and follow the “traditional aftercare” instructions at this point.

Final Stage:
At this point your bandage can be removed. The bandage will look a bit hazy from old plasma and your skin peeling beneath. As before wash your hands and remove the wrap with warm water. Wash your tattoo with unscented antibacterial soap using just your fingers. Pat it dry with a paper towel and you’re all set!

*You may use lotion or Aquaphor to keep the tattoo moisturized throughout the day.

Enjoy your new tattoo!
