Traditional Aftercare Instructions
Congrats on your new ink!
To properly care for this tattoo you will need the following:
- Liquid Unscented Antibacterial Soap (Dial Gold)
- Aquaphor Ointment
- Unscented Lotion
- Paper Towels
Your artist will have covered your fresh tattoo in a plastic wrap. It is recommended that you only keep it on for about an hour and no longer than 3 hours maximum. You will never need to wrap your tattoo again after this initial wrap is applied. As soon as you are able to do so, remove the wrap and follow the instructions below.
Clean your tattoo 2-3 times a day for a week. In the shower or sink use lukewarm water and unscented antibacterial soap to wash. Scrub your tattoo using only your fingers, DO NOT use a loofa, washcloth or anything else except your fingers!
Afterwards, rinse off your tattoo and pat it dry with a clean paper towel—DO NOT WIPE. Let your tattoo breathe for a few minutes after drying. Then apply a THIN layer of Aquaphor Ointment. This will help moisturize and heal your tattoo.
Do not soak or submerge your new tattoo in water for the first 2 weeks. Baths, pools, hot tubs, saunas and similar activities should all be avoided. You may shower as usual but avoid very hot or long showers. Try your best to avoid hitting your tattoo directly and continuously with running water
Once your week is up you may stop washing your tattoo. Use lotion daily to moisturize the skin and avoid the sun to keep your tattoo looking fresh!
Enjoy your new tattoo!
